The Trump Factor
Perhaps one of the most triggering names in all the world in 2026 is Donald J. Trump. Love him or hate him, and many do with an insatiable passion, he’s our president for the next two years. That is unless he changes the Constitution allowing him to run for a third term, a thought which certainly triggers emotional fits amongst those who hate him most. Don’t worry, he won’t.
Hate is a fitting word made manifest by the attitude which flows from every crevice of those who hate him most. Some of whom who were so emotionally displaced they decided to relocate to a different country altogether. How can you allow a person to control you to that degree? Inversely, MAGA supporters stand with him through virtually any shortcomings or slip of the tongue, though this author believes everything Trump says and does is intentionally coupled with the advantage of deflecting his detractors as they fact check his comments as he quietly proceeds with his agenda. Brilliant strategy. In my view I believe it’s proper to dislike the agenda without hating the person advocating for it.
But then there’s you and me. The moment, and I do mean “moment” we disclose any positive or negative sentiment towards the president in a social situation, the vitriol spews forth like bees to honey. I’ve witnessed friendships destroyed defending politicians they’ve never even actually spoken to. That’s just not right. These days it’s best just to keep quiet. If you like what he’s doing as president then sit back and enjoy the show for the next two years. If you dislike what he’s doing then…well there’s not much you can do about it for the next two years anyway so why let it get you down. Get out there and enjoy life!
This post is not an endorsement for either side, I am merely making observations and jotting them down. Remember when we used to have “boring” presidents, all politics and no drama? Of course Ronald Reagan was at least humorous but he was the last of his kind. I digress.
Let me close with this admission: The thing I do like about Trump is that he has no filter. He says what’s on his mind, even if it’s offensive. If there is anyone in this world who I would prefer to know what’s on their mind it’s a politician.
Can we all at least agree and be grateful for that?
Jim
