Is Building A Wall Really Such A Bad Idea?
Well, read my opinion, then feel free share yours below.
To modern day Christians who seem to fall ill frothing at the mouth when the idea of building a border wall, as mentioned by at least two Presidential candidates now, the same would do well to consider the following:
There are at least two types of walls. Walls that support and walls that divide. Satan happens to hate walls. "Let's all be one happy family," he whispers in our ears. Jerusalem is surrounded by a great wall. Should that which was ordained by God Himself and then built by Nehemiah be torn down? Were racism, bigotry and isolationism the reason for God to command Noah to build the dividing walls of the great ark, thus condemning the rest of the world to death? The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. You tell me.
A bit of history: The walls of Jerusalem were an important sign to the enemies of Israel. Upon their return from the Babylonian captivity in the time of Nehemiah, the first priority was to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah told their enemies, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it” (Nehemiah 2:20).
This too is important: Rebuilding the walls showed that God was with His people. Upon the completion of the walls, Nehemiah wrote, “When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God” (Nehemiah 6:16).
Walls were also spoken of in a figurative sense; those who live in defiance of God's way are leaving themselves "wide open" to even more evil. "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." (Proverbs 25:28 KJV). Interesting analogy.
A few other examples of walls to consider: God Himself teaches us through His example to erect impregnable bulwarks against Satan. He placed cherubim with flaming swords at the entrance to the Garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life (Genesis 3:24), and even New Jerusalem will have towering walls and gates (Revelation 21:12, 14). In type, the church is to be a wall (Song of Songs 8:10), within which peace dwells and righteousness flourishes.
So the Christian needs to understand what the Word says about the importance of walls before they are quick to criticize others for wanting to do the same. Welcome one and all to America, but know that admittance to this great country requires prior authorization via proper identification. Only a fool leaves his house or business unprotected. Who is willing to argue with God on the wisdom of building walls to protect us.
So what say you?
