What’s with all the identity labels these days anyway? It seems a whole new vocabulary has been birthed by a burgeoning identity movement from certain sectors of our society whilst the rest of us were busy minding our own business working and raising our families. No need to list them all lest I trigger an opposing, highly regarded opinion on the matter.
Identity with self and how others see us now governs seemingly every aspect of our lives. One might possibly argue that the responsibility mostly falls upon the steadily increasing integration of technology into every aspect of our lives. Teaching, influencing, tracking, snooping, etc. And cameras are everywhere, oy! I suppose the technological “cat is out of the bag” and will remain there until the end of time, which may not be too far off. We’ll just have to wait and see. Disclaimer: No predictions given here.
But you know, I just want to be me, the person who I grew up with. Well not exactly that person but perhaps one who has aged with wisdom and knowledge. I admit it, I have lots of faults, flubs, and phobias. And I think my pronouns are just fine the way they are. Please do not redefine me or categorize me. If you don’t like me or what I have to say then check your intolerance at the door. Which is another word we hear a lot of these days. It is ok for me to be intolerant of your intolerance? I can still love or like you without the pronoun. Just be you. But please know whose you are.
How about Jesus Christ? The most righteous person who ever lived (and will forever). Ok if I identify with Him? Not only identify with, but have been transformed by:
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galations 2:20
Believe me when I tell you His identify will be around long after yours has turned to dust.
Listen to me, you have the freedom to be called whatever you want…..but with it includes the possibility of not being called at all.
Welcome to the club.

Your self-identity is important. The thief comes not but for to steal, kill, and destroy. Thus, any worldly identity we may have can be stolen from us for (sometimes) great harm. What to do? Make the foundation of your personal identity to be spiritual, who you are in Christ, which can never be stolen! Then build on that foundation (human, son, father, citizen, worker, etc.). Then you will be ready for the thief.
