Good advice, clearly learned from experience. When I left editing our local newspaper for the corporate world, my wife (who worked in a corporate office herself) gave me some advice that has stood by me through the years. "Always make your boss look good." Work hard, work well, and cover shortcomings when you can. Your boss will appreciate it.

Remember this - in order for your employer to stay in business, everyone that is on the payroll must add value & bring in profits that are greater than what is paid out in labor. This includes benefits and company expenses! If your value/income for the company is double what you are paid (including benies), you have just begun. Some people slack off and don't even earn their pay - everyone else has to make up for this! IF you desire a raise in pay, EARN IT!
