Everyone loves a handy list. So here’s one I conceived just yesterday:
I observe that a number of folks willingly give up a ton of personal information on a surprisingly consistent basis for all the world to see. Perhaps unknowingly? I hope not. This is most evident via a common luxury Americans enjoy every day - the automobile. During my daily commute to work, I see a host of emotionally triggering bumper stickers of all sorts and sizes. Consider that to those with dubious intents, they provide a wealth of information as enumerated below. I don’t think folks pause to reflect on this.🤔 After all, we no longer live in the Leave It To Beaver generation. These visual distractions (sometimes covering vast portions of glass thus inhibiting visibility) often include images or text covering a panoply of subject matter, as follows:
Number/ sex (as defined in the historic sense) of family members you have
Number/ breed of pets you may own
Schools your children attend/ are attending
Universities you’ve attended
Degrees you’ve earned
Candidates you’ve voted for and want others to, many from elections long since past (Bush/Gore even)
Politically divisive/personal agenda messages you want others to passionately care about like you do
Religious beliefs you uphold/ churches you attend
General messages you wish to convey to those driving behind you
Stores you shop at
Restaurants you dine at
Your hometown logo proudly displayed
Messages about your ex-wife/ husband
Operations/ ailments you have survived/ endured
Tourist spots you’ve visited
Messages condemning certain behavior(s)
Adult (not for kids) $#@&% messages
Messages about who/ what you brake for
……..And the list goes on and on. Imagine how much I have learned about you simply by looking at the back of your car. And I didn’t even have to hire a private investigator. Not that I would, mind you. Bet I got you to think twice about it though.
Clearly I missed out on a profitable career path in not choosing to start my own bumper sticker manufacturing empire. In fact, I think I would have named it Bumper Snickers.
Please comment below if you have witnessed others I didn’t mention.
